Hotel History » Hotel Cherica ****

The building was built in 1896 by Romanian orthodox monks from Saint Athos (Greece), being used by them as hostellery and being known at that time as the "Monk Hotel". Shortly later, by the beginning of the next century, Anton I. Doiciu, an important trader in those times, originary from Galati and real estate owner in Galati, Iasi, Bucharest, Sinaia and Constanta, bought this building but died in 1918. His estate was inherited by his daughter Pulcheria “Chérica” Doiciu married in 1931 with Prince Dimitrie Gr. Sturdza and known later as Princess Chérica Sturdza (1905-1987). She remained the owner of this property until 1950 when the building is taken away by the state together with many other real estates. For more than 50 years, in the year 2003, the Sturdza family re entered into the possession of this property. There followed more than 4 years of work for the consolidation, modernization and remodelling of the building so that the building could be opened in the year 2008. Further to these works there resulted 18 deluxe suites and deluxe mini-suites for rent, with surfaces of up to 47 sq.m.
